Any decent recommendations from recent experience! It's been about 5 years since I last brought a car in. Cheers.

John Key (not the PM) in Tauranga is great to deal with and does an awesome job. Can't remember the name of his company. something like tranzamerica shipping. But a google of his name and tauranga should find him. If you can't let me know and I will track him down for you. He is a proper car guy himself as well as very organised.

Just have a look through Petrolhead or NZV8. If they're in there, support them. Have used Kiwi (Mainfreight) into Tauranga, and it was painless (other than the GST) Just rocked in there and loaded it up.

Be very careful what you import. No restriction on importing cars over 20 years old BUT cars from jan 1990 must meet fuel emission standards and I am told the 200 exemptions granted each year have already been filled this year. This means an early 90's import that does not meet the standard, cannot be registered in NZ until 2013.

I heard today that the 500 SIV exemptions have gone.

You can say that again. That cost sounds about right.
What was that 200 figure tgray - or were you on the same track as the 500.

Absolute bollocks! I just complied a 2012 camaro this month and mine was number 280. People get confused with the special interest permit regarding frontal impact/emissions exemption (200p/year) and the special interest catagory A exemption (500 p/year). I have been told the 200 emission exemption for 2012 is fully allocated (see above), but there is still plenty of catagory A LHD permits left, despite some dealer trying to scare people into 'getting in quick' before the are all gone sales talk. They are either at best, misguided or at worst, lying.

I've just read all that on line.
Confusion was a customer having an imported Fiat 500 with no ID plate, so the compliance backfired, and that comes under the 200 emission category, which was all new, unknown and of no interest to me. Hey - I'm trying not to laugh at him too. But the 200 has been used up, that's where the story cocked up. So he'll have to wait until next year - and it's a sow's ear.
Thanks for letting me know where the number stands at the moment. Stopped me panicing!
