If its anything like the 2000 model my son has, it will need a new water pump and cambelt then it should be fine.

I have a non turbo legacy and in over 2 1/2 years since Ive bought it the only thing it needed was tyres,Its a good economical car for the driving I do and comfy .

There is nothing wrong with subaru's if you service them had 2 in the last 12 years.

Not cheap to insure and not that cheap to run round town, comfy yes.

bigracket, Sep 11, 7:29am
Lol @ lookoutas , I must admit I am surprised this page is not full of criticismyet, This I have heard are They are good, motors are good, but everything bolted to them is hellishly expensive.

bigracket, Sep 11, 7:30am
Is that the same for the 2 ltr ones Gun!

Am looking at getting one too at sometime - ideally the 2005 2.0r. The prices on them really are dropping, ive seen a couple of the 2003 2.0r with mid 100k for 10 or near offer.

Blah blah they blow up and eat your children

We've had three (2 GT turbo and one N/A) - never missed a beat other than consumables (battery, etc).

Get one with as much as a service history as you can.

(As a rule, the newer they are, the less they've been thrashed and not maintained - too expensive to buy, mostly.)

Great cars, I have an 02 gtb for the last 3yrs, done 90,000 ks (now has 190,000 on it) with only the starter motor needing bushes and just replaced a coil. Keep the oil changes ect up to them and they will last as good as any other car.

I have had a TT and a N/A Both were great cars. Altho the n/a was gutless. (1.6 imprezza)

If you buy one I ain't fixin it!

louisesamosa, Sep 12, 2:03am
Fantastic cars! Serviced when remembered, passed all the wofs, only replaced tyres and wipe blades.Sold last year as cam belt was 30k overdue (@ 100,000km) and was quoted over $1000 to get fixed. Car was a 1993 and worth about that.

I have serviced many Subys and the common faults are too many to list in here but by all means get it tested thoroughly before purchase. They are quite fuel hungry round town which is not what you want is it! Admittedly not as much as your present car.

tazcsv, Sep 12, 3:11am
Im happy to abit more in fuel for a car i enjoy driving. 550ks to 50l aint that bad tho, 50-50 town/open road.

marmar1, Sep 12, 6:12am
My B4 twin turbo does use alot of petrol but to have the power there when i want it is bloody great!

bigracket, Sep 12, 7:08am
