Dash Warning Light.

intrade, Oct 2, 3:45pm
that light is the check engine light , means the car has stored a fault of one of the electronic components on the car what year is the car!
ah yea 2001 will be obd 2 you need to get it fixed you can use a obd code scanner and read the code out and write it on a paper and reset the computer and sometimes the codes dont come backdepending on what the fault is. Like naigbour has a nissan it played up so was here at my shop check engine had a engine cam sensor fault, so i reset it and its fine ever since lol. But depends what the faut is if its back straight after reset then it needs attention.

Hi there. Its a 2001 Mitsubishi Cedia SE-R

steve312, Oct 2, 3:50pm
Check engine light as intrade has said.Could be any of the electronic engine management sensors.

It isn't unusual for Mitsi's to have problems with their engine management computers.

Take it somewhere that has a diagnostic scanner and get it checked. It shouldn't cost a lot (anywhere between $30 - 60) and will let you know what the stored fault is. Its then just a matter of replacing the faulty part and clearing the fault codes out of the computer.

All right, that's great information. Thanks very much. Looks like I have a job to do this weekend then, as I know she won't be bothered to take it! Hopefully its nothing serious then.

Thanks again.

You can get the light to go out with a paper clip (Full Reset) look on You Tube how to do save you heap in cash knowing

Most "check engine" lamps come on when:

The fuel mixture is too rich or too lean or the engine has backfired.

steve312, Oct 2, 11:37pm
Really!

How do you adjust the mixture on an injected engine to remedy the fault then!Normally it isn't so much the mixture, as the oxygen sensor sending the wrong message to the ECU.All it takes to trip the check engine fault light is one sensor slightly outside the preset parameters.

Clearing the fault codes is only going to turn the check engine light off until the next time the sensor sends the wrong message.

Get a scanner plugged into the system and find out where the problem is.It is a simple process to clear the fault codes while the scanner is connected.

I have got it booked in to be scanned tomorrow morning before work. If anyone is interested I will post back the results!

budgel, Oct 2, 11:52pm
Please do.

steve312, Oct 2, 11:58pm
My money is on an O2 sensor fault as at least one of the codes.Maybe a knock sensor of crank angle sensor fault as well.Good luck and would love to hear the result of the scan.

cube_guy, Oct 3, 12:03am
Thank you. Yeah I thought someone would like to know the results. I don't come in to motoring at all, but have followed other threads in other places and I often wonder what the outcome is. Anywho. Will post back.

So, took it to be scanned this morning. Came back with a problem relating to airflow. He reset it, and it took 2 seconds after he turned the car back on for the engine light to come back on.

He said if it were him, he would take the car out onto the motorway and give it some stick, and see if the problem won't clear by itself, sometimes it just needs to be run hard when its related to airflow like that.

He then said he recommends taking it Donnithorne Mitsubishi here in Christchurch if that doesn't help, as they are more likely to find the issue faster/easier than they could, as apparently troubleshooting this sort of thing in Mitsi's is a PITA.

Any thoughts on all of this! Thanks.

I disagree, just get the fault read and find out what it is. Least you will know if it comes back after resetting of what it is causing it.

Air flow or air flow meter! Not sure thrashing down motoway guna help ,when last seviced mite need air filter changed! Still need go back get lite turn off ,this scanning businezs bit of rip sumtmes, paid but no real answer

cube_guy, Oct 3, 9:25pm
"Air flow" is how he termed it. I asked if he could be more specific with the scan result. He said nope.

Just bought a new air filter too. He suggested that as well, as the old one was looking well used.

He quoted me $50 for the scan when I phoned yesterday, but charged me less than half that, so can't complain too much bout that.
