does anyone have experience with repairs to the electric seats in a BMW. I am looking for someone with experience. I dont want guesswork please. It is a 328i m series. The recliner motor is working but is not engageing.

I have successfully removed and repaired the electric seat in my E34 5 series which was showing the same symptom as yours; ie the motor hums but no movement. The cause turned out to be the cable drive had fallen out of the socket on the motor.I put a little dob of soft glue on the cable when I refitted it.
The seat had to be removed from the car to do this. It's a bit of a PITA but if you have time, patience and some reasonable DIY skills it can be done. A workshop manual helps a lot too.
Don't forget you also need to take SRS precautions.
