1982 KE70 COROLLA DOESNT STAY GOING!

Was driving my corolla today and all of a sudden it wouldnt stay going if i turn the key and hold it just past the on position it willl stay going but if i let go it dies, any sugestions!

could be ignition problem, need to run a wire from batt to the coil and start the engine see if it keeps going like that.

i remember a mates starlet doing that, couldn't remember the exact cause, we ruled out the ignition switch as the cause since we replaced it with a known good one. the ballast resistor comes to mind though

Yes, replace ballast resistor, usually can just bridge the two wires together to test. If it starts and runswith wires bridged, there's your problem (o:

I sourced mine from a 'auto-electrician', he tested the resistance (ohms) of the old part, so he could order the correct part with the same ohms resistance.Its important the resistance is correct.
