how does you deciding you want to own someone elses vehicle so therefore changed the ownership of it into your name possible make what you did legal
they call it theft
even your thinking in the next paragraph is seriously flawed too - you do not have the automatic right of whim to foreclose on properties belonging to another - they call that theft too - you can apply to the courts for the right to foreclose, and there are criteria to meet prior to foreclosure

I don't believe for a second that a judge would accept that explanation, you have no legal right to simply take something from somebody that owes you money, if that was the case society would be chaos.

,if the system is slack its not my fault is it!
Nah it's not Just because Joe Public can't acess ALL Previous Registered Owners Doesn't mean Plod can't through coms in seconds. Your analogy is akin to a criminal record being wiped-sadly incorrect.

Reality is the current person with the vehicle can Prove it has been fraudulently dregistered by the named person signing the paperwork
INSTANTLY
ralphdog1,

Ahhh, no. What you did was change the registered owner to be yourself. In no way does that change the legal ownership of the vehicle, they are two distinctly different things.

lol. i believe your vindictive plan has backfired on you.Now all this guy has to do to get revenge on you is to leave his car parked in town, acquiring a heap of no wof/reg fines and they will all be sent to you. Which you will then have to either pay or defend in court. In which case your probably going to have to tell the truth as your defence and admit that you fraudulently changed a vehicles ownership to yourself.
Your in a worse state if he uses the vehicle to commit crime, like gas staion drive offs for example.Where are they going to track that plate to!The last registered owner, thats you. Face it youve shot yourself in the foot and done the guy a favour at the same time.

Danchop, unfortunately you didint research this too well. Changing the "ownership" only means you are changing the person responsible for licensing fees, parking tickets, and speed camera tickets. (just wait till they start piling up in your mail box)
The fact that you have de-registered it means nothing. There are thousands of de- registered cars driving around on our roads. Do you really think the last registered owner is escaping speed camera tickets by doing this! no.
Once your mate works out what you have done, he will be laughing his head off. He will be able to get as many parking tickets and speed camera tickets as he likes, and they will all get sent to you, as you were the last REGISTERED owner. If you dont believe me, google the difference between registered owner and legal owner. If you dont want to do that, try googling the word "ignorant" because everybody here has been telling you the same thing.

You are quite simple arnt you, As the last recorded registered owner you are causing it to be used on public roads unregistered,YOU are responsible for that van whether you realise it or not and as such are responsible for the fines it racks up. The records dont disappear when a plate becomes unused but of course You know better.

Did,nt they do this on Fair Go a couple of years ago to prove how simpiley it could be done!

why deregister it , should have reported it stolen . Silly man.
klrider,

really bright, brain surgeon.so what happens when he reports it and the trail gets followed, the big bright paper trail.then its fraud and theft.
supernova2,
Nov 11, 4:21pm
May be wrong but I dont think you have to be the registered owner to deregister a vehicle.

How about this scenario. Driver of van drives into a group of people on the side of the road killing someone, drives off. Someone records the rego, tells the Police. They check the records, find plate de-reged. But last owner was you, previous owner was your flatmate. Who do you think they will call upon! I'm guessing you would have a lot of explaining to do.
danchop,

thats getting a bit over the top, think ill just prepare to pack a toothbrush
00quattro00,
Nov 11, 6:54pm
And with that nzta can reinstate the rego at no cost, had it happen to me, bought a car, had it sent up on a transporter as it was down south, went and picked it up a week later and the previous owner had decided to de register it, I called nzta and they made a call to their main office and it was reinstated
Makes you wonder why they cant do that with cars that have gone out of the system

Got to be a windup, surely no one could be that stupid. What do the authorities think of individuals who take the law into their own hands.

I've done it before. "Legally" I didn't have the right. Reality is they were meatheads who deserved it and in the end the courts are HOPELESS. If you pursue things the correct way then it can take months and even they they can just mess you around because they have not a dime to their name. You gain nothing and land up losing out MORE over the period of it all being sorted out, legal system is a complete joke which I want nothing to do with; nothing but an embarrassment to our country. Some of us actually have a life and want to get things done without the scum of the earth winning one over by playing games.

I havent read all the thread but.how did you get the flatemates car licence details to be abe to change ownership, you have to enter their drivers licence number, did you premeditively write it down / sneak a peak in wallet or flatemate agreement details !
billybob57,
Nov 15, 4:18pm
Well the system is ludicrous then , you can change ownership but still be responsible for a vehicle you dispose of is rediculous, or am I interpreting wrong!
