Any Odyssey Buffs?

mopar06, Dec 26, 3:54am
My car stutters and rings out in first gear. Once going the car is awesome. It diesnt do it all the time and only does it when its warm. After a HUGE amount of googling the matter and seeing a couple of mechanics with different ideas.nothing seems to add up. Sensors, solenoids, valves torque coverter Any suggestions!

What happens when you take off in 2nd gear and work your way up!

intrade, Dec 26, 4:51am
was it propperly done sump off and new filter etc!

mugenb20b, Dec 26, 4:52am
Odyssey transmission hasn't got a sump or a servicable filter.

Auto automatically changes to first gear when you come to a stop, even in the manual tiptronic mode. If you were able to take off in 2nd you would be able to apply full power with no slipping.

If it was a faulty solenoid, the problem would be there all the time. Transmission ECUs rarely play up, but would pay to check it out first. If the fault occurs only when warm, then I suspect it's got a mechanical fault = tranny out job. Also, they need to use the correct type of oil, allow $2000 to $2500 for a rebuild.

and another one with filter. there is no autotrans without a filter in my opinion.

I recommend you get it looked at by professional automatic rebuild place.
some use special honda fluids only also wrong fluids willdestroy the transmission.

There is a filter (or should I say, a strainer) inside the transmission. The casing needs to be split to get to it, which would involve a transmission removal, and no, you don't want to do that. It does SFA anyway. However, the drain plug has a big magnet on the end of it, which picks up enough crap as it is. I do a drain and refill on mine once a year, 200k so far and no problems at all. The V6 Odyssey has got the worst rep for eating autos.
