Old Ford Escort - worth listing?

rpvr, Dec 30, 2:42am
My old Dad died recently age 91, and the family is gradually cleaning out his stuff - he was a bit of a hoarder. In his garage, currently half buried in junk, is an old Ford Escort, 1978 or 79 I think. Hasn't been driven in 15 years, and is quite badly rusted. I know he spent quite a bit on reconditioning the engine a couple of years before he gave up driving, but have no idea if it can even be turned over at this stage. Will have to remove some of the junk to get at it first. Would it have any value for spare parts! I thought of possibly just listing at $1 reserve. It would be a bit of a mission for any buyer to remove it, as it would be a trailer job and it is quite likely the brakes are seized. I am pretty sure he has kept the rego on hold all these years, but still looking for the documentation (a mission in itself!).

I would drag it out, take photos and post them up and then ask for a opinion

Yep there will be buyers out there for it. $1 reserve and describe it honestly.

If you put it up for a fair price, someone will buy it.

Thats the sort of thing I'm looking for to potter around on in the garage.pity you're in Auckland.hmmm.still, could get it transported. Will keep an eye out for the listing

There's Escorts and Escorts.Could be a valuable one or could simply be an old rusty 1100.Whatever it is it will be worth something to an Escort nut.Worth listing once you get to it and if the plates are still live then its worth a fair bit more.

Yes it's worth listing. The rally boys can use the shells as they are getting harder to get. Don't expect a fortune though

chebry, Dec 30, 12:54pm
Escorts still seem to sell so somebody will want it

saki, Dec 30, 9:55pm
2 door or 4 door !

Even a completely stuffed one is worth something to somebody

Chuck it on for $1 reserve, and hopefully at least some parts of it can be used by somebody else.Better than than just scrapping it for the value of the metal in the shell

def worth good dollar these days, I looked for ages for an old Esky (or something similar) & was amazed how much they go for

rpvr, Dec 31, 2:06am
If you would look at transporting it that far you must be keen. Might be a while before listing as I have to get up the energy to clear out the other stuff from around it.

rpvr, Dec 31, 2:07am
4 door 1300cc

rpvr, Dec 31, 2:09am
I would expect to get rid of it for the price someone is willing to pay, nothing more. Would breathe a sigh of relief when the red flag came up at $1.

Thanks for the replies, a great help.

treachug, Dec 31, 2:21am
Transporting is only $600-maybe $750 maybe a wee bit more - the buyer just factors it into their overall cost.its not too bad. Cheaper than shipping from overseas.lol
Will keep an eye open.

if it was a 2 door then its worth something.4 doors not so much.
