How many kms has your vehicle done.

morrisman1, Jan 22, 10:07am
Model, year and engine would help. Im guessing it is a p12 though. Also who told you that the chain needs replacing!

floscey, Jan 22, 7:07pm
think the chain stretches and affects the crank /cam angle sensors .
QG18 or QR20 .

kazbanz, Jan 22, 7:12pm
Payntawhat year and engine is your car!

paynta1, Jan 22, 7:47pm
2002 2litre,not my car but they were quoted $4000 to fix, young couple new baby,I doubt it be that much.apparently had to be towed to where they looked at it at said that thats what needed doing, we are going to see our mechanic today and ask about it,hopefully we can help this couple onto the right track

paynta1, Jan 22, 7:47pm
dun under 100,000kms

thejazzpianoma, Jan 22, 8:44pm
You're up John, you are the resident expert on all things censor related are you not!

wind.turbine, Jan 22, 8:53pm
thats a bit low

floscey, Jan 22, 10:15pm
are they changing the engine ! $4k wtf .

lugee, Jan 22, 11:02pm
If its throwing a code for cam angle sensor then it COULD be the chain. Though I wouldn't expect it at 100k. Nor should it cost 4 large.

kazbanz, Jan 22, 11:34pm
DEFINITELY it is not a $4000 job to replace BOTH crank angle sensors the cam chain and the tensioner in the 2.0l Primera. I'd say more like $1500.00
$4000 is to rebuild the transmission if the chain has actually broken inside.

paynta1, Jan 23, 4:48am
Just replacement she said, and what ever they have to do, they are taking it to our mechanic today or tommorow,he said $4000 is a joke.so hopefully they will get good news, and so what if I carn't spell evrything right

paynta1, Jan 24, 8:42am
Turns out nothing really wrong with it,timing chain was fine, just goes to show a ,get a second opinion, they are so releived.

jmma, Jan 24, 8:49am
Good outcome OP. Excellent you came back and let us know.

kazbanz, Jan 24, 8:22pm
Lemme guess--was it the cam angle sensor faulty!

paynta1, Jan 25, 4:21am
all they said was you can leave it cause it wont damamge anything at all, or fix it for sweet b---r all

cowlover, Jan 25, 11:15am
Be good to find out what is wrong with it.For all you know th 2nd garage might be just as incompetent as the first.

kazbanz, Jan 26, 8:33am
paynta- engine check lights don't come on for no reason.
