Ever been evicted from a car showroom?

I'm writing this whilst still in a state of shock.

As we do most weekends, the wife and I were driving around various Auckalnd garages looking at cars.

Been around the shore, through New Lynn, Pt Chev and Western Springs and while talking to one of the sales guys I said I was looking at Impreza Wrx's & STi's. He hadn't got anything but reckoned one of the dealers on K Rd would have what we were after.
Went up, had a look. They'd got a couple of '02/03 WRxSTi's, a bit high on the K's but worth seeing anyway. Then one of their salesman suggest I look at the black one in the showroom " you'll really like it" he said.

At first glance it looked good, not great, but worth a 2nd look.

A different salesman came over to start a conversation about the car as I was walking around it. Then I mentioned to the wife that the paint work looked like it had had a bit of a hard life.Dont get me wrong, stone chips and car park dings are par for the course and initially this didnt look any worse than any other 10yr old car. ( now i'm no expert on paint, but to the un-trained eye it almost looked as if it MAY have had some work )

Then, next minute, the old boy fromthe office out the back came out and told me to go to the local car supermarket & start picking their stock to pieces. Perhaps I should go back when I know what I'm talking about. I told him I've owned five of these, so I know exactly what i'm talking about. He then tells me to get out of his show room, get off his site before calls the police and get me arrested for trespass! He also starts shouting at my wife and when she asked him if he was the owner he said he was, she replied that she felt sorry for his customers but left straight away.

2hrs later I'm still shaking my head in disbelief

A couple of points.

1, I worked in the motor trade in the UK for 15yrs and never, ever would I ever speak to a potential customer like that.

2, I may only be one customer, but in the 3 1/2 years i've been back in NZ i've bought, or been involved in the buying process for family members on 19 vehicles.

3, If you want to advertise a vehicle as " in absolutely immaculate condition " MAKE SURE IT IS

4, Shout your customer down if you feel the need, but remember, he has a voice too ( and the internet is a powerful thing )

That all I have to say for now, just a rant,

thanks for listening.

Phil

2 sides to every story .

I got evicted fromcar yard that was advertising "no obligation free valuations"

He apparently didn't like the look of my Victor sitting on his Jag forecourt.

That's a shame you had this experience Phil.
I really wish people like this would leave the motor industry, as they obviously have no people skills and end up giving us all a bad rap. If you don't love working with cars and people, you really are in the wrong job.
Tell your friends and family about it and vow never to return and that's exactly what they deserve.

yea well this country is where the morons got sent to and the criminals to australia in the olden days. i quite often think how on earth people can still be in business. like i went to a place for something they said we got loads of these. 25 minute later comes back its the last one on the shelf. i said i also want this you got it listed on the website. no we dont have that. so i paid went home. looked it up again sure enough rang the 0800 number quoted the numberyes we got one left paid with credit card and get it mondays. This is how all and everything works in nz its just getting worse now that they want to have all the taxes and laws from usa and europe here on top of having to deal with numbnuts and mrons day in and day out here. with a few exemptions but your best to assume you deal with morons that way you get plesantly surprised if they are on to it.

Short quotes from your post .

#1: As we do most weekends, the wife and I were driving around various Auckalnd garages looking at cars.
#2: I told him I've owned five of these, so I know exactly what i'm talking about.

Ok, I can see some possible reasons for that outburst, going on what you have said of YOUR knowledge, but it's an observation not an attack on you personally . OK!

Ppl who know a lot on certain subjects. . often gain a very high opinion of that knowledge & often express it in a strong way to those that appear to not know better (for whatever reason whether knowing the truth or not)
The owner may have just had a few ppl such as above & it HAS been rather hot weather + a hard time in the industry for a while now.

By all means, the owner should have NEVER EVER spoken to a potential customer in that manner (NO argument there).

just saying that theres always 2 sides to a story . yes!

mrfxit, Mar 22, 11:10pm
Agreed but if it's a one off, then it's a pesky event but really nothiing to cry about.
IF on the other hand it's been known to happen often from that yard, then maybe he hasn't got long to go before the yard closes anyway.
Problem solved/ payback done

Name and shame the prick!

Have i ever been evicted from a caryard!
Yes, about twentyyears ago during a two day refuel and unload in nelson a friend and i were looking at cars to kill a bit of time. there was a vauxhall Viva in the yard and i think they wanted 3 grand or something for it, it seemed expensive anyway, the salesman came sauntering over to start pointing out the good points of this admittedly pretty close to mint Viva. seems pretty expensive doesnt it! i asked the three shades of brown clad salesman. he quite rightly made the observation that it was a tidy car and also that some people really liked Vauxhall Viva's. My long since deceasedshipmate and good friend was not one to drag a conversation on before getting to the point said 'well some people really like getting f!@#$% in the a@#$ but as a rule they dont charge me three grand for it' at which point the salesmans boss who was loitering just within earshot introduced himself and promptly evicted us from his caryard. no blows were exchanged however there were a few rude words. about an hour later we were also evicted from mcdonalds, it was just one of those days that seemed to happen a lot more often back then

Buying 19 vehicles in 3 1/2 years is a heck of a lot!
If you have been in the game for 15 years previously, I'm sure your thick enough skinned to see this for what it is.

mrfxit, Mar 23, 12:04am
Fixed that for ya, ;-)

llortmt, Mar 23, 12:15am
I don't agree with that other crap you wrote but the above is sadly SO true. You need an kind of optimism for the mediocre!

pbsrb5, Mar 23, 12:20am
mrfixit,

i was spoilt at an early age, being fortunate enough to have a new company car ( demo ) every 3 months or so. the 19 vehicles werent all for me, i wish they were.

thick skinned didnt help today.

farwest, Mar 23, 12:23am
You can think all the Hmmmmm you like.but keep your tongue behind your teeth. The perfect result is to sell the visitor a car.

desmodave, Mar 23, 12:32am
May be ya taste in cars and takeaways had something to do with it.

pbsrb5, Mar 23, 12:41am
nothing wrong with the current, the new will be additional.
nothing i like better than a haggle with a salesman, but this was a whole new level.

farwest, Mar 23, 12:42am
He wasn't a salesman.

mrfxit, Mar 23, 12:53am
Mmmmm ;-)~

richynuts, Mar 23, 1:00am
Maybe the first dealer put the call out to second dealer "Hey got a live one for ya!". Op sounds like a tyre kicker/time waster spending his weekends winding up car salesmen. Firm believer in getting out and about. but car yards!

onelonly, Mar 23, 1:04am
the dude is a temporary carsalesman.

tgray, Mar 23, 1:53am
Just curious to know why most weekends you and your wife go around car yards!
Surely your not looking to buy a car 'most weekends'!

pbsrb5, Mar 23, 2:05am
We don't actually spend all weekend, every weekend looking at cars, but we need another one and can't agree what to have next, that's all. We try to avoid talking to sales guys as a rule, as I'm not a time waster.
