NZs fastest street car?

brapbrap8, Sep 14, 10:58am
Reading about the R35 GTR in the latest NZ performance car pushing out 1,600hp (1,193kw) at all 4 wheels, 0-100 in 1.6sec, 0-200 in 2.6sec.
Looks stock standard on the outside too.
Anything faster getting around on the streets that you guys know about?

butterfly05, Sep 14, 10:59am
Wasnt there a vette on here with twin turbos and built motor at 1000+ on low boost?

1600 is nothing compared to what people are doing overseas now.

I'd far sooner be in an airliner with those sorts of figures mentioned, not being exposed to a possible target of an unguided "missile" if something indeed fails on such a vehicle at speed?
There's really no place on our roads for such vehicles. period, perhaps for the no tomorrow types maybe.
Race tracks OK but definitely NOT on our roads

mr_bond, Sep 14, 7:59pm
Define 'fastest', I reckon that Lamborghini Gallardo that got turboed and got the NZ land speed record can't be too far off street legal?

patiki1, Sep 15, 12:32am
Reece Fish runs a 7.68 and street legal, dont know where he gets his wof from.

sr2, Sep 15, 12:51am
Doesn't "fast" include being able to stop and go around corners as well?

butterfly05, Sep 15, 6:28am
Well for those of us with deep pockets theres cars like the mclaren p1 and latest porsche thingy. By all accounts they handle amazing considering the hp they have.

attitudedesignz, Sep 15, 6:54am
I find it a little amusing how some confuse "fast" with "quick".

desmodave, Sep 15, 7:05am
Fast is how your $$$$$$ go when you want to go quick . How fast is fast .

brapbrap8, Sep 15, 7:30am
Thats why I thought the GTR would be pretty well up there, the owner lives in Whangamata so it pays to have pretty good road holding in that area, no straight roads anywhere.

brapbrap8, Sep 15, 7:36am
It's a shame that Topgear blew up before they managed to do their group test of the La Ferrari, 918 and P1.
I doubt that anyone else will ever have a chance to put them against each other.

butterfly05, Sep 15, 7:38am
Its a nothing test because each car (the p1 and the 918 moreso) have distinct advantages on certain types and lengths of racetrack. IMHO the p1 is clearly the better/cooler technologically car.

trogedon, Sep 15, 7:43am
Safety wasn't in the OP's equation.

Having had Tony Quinn in his GTR hand us our collective arse's (on a silver platter) in most of the recent Targa's that selection makes sense to me.
The big question has to be is your mate running in the Targa next month to confirm your prediction?

brapbrap8, Sep 15, 8:14am
Not my mate unfortunately, was just reading about the car in NZ Performance Car mag.

Where do you find the route for Targa?
Not sure if it will be going down our road again this year or not, couldn't find it on their website.
Last year I didn't know about it until I was coming home from town and the road was closed, got to watch some cool cars for half the day but would be nice to be able to plan for it!

melonhead1, Sep 15, 9:12am
But the fanboys don't like the DCT.

poppy62, Sep 15, 9:47pm
Neil at Auto Clutch has a mighty special Porsche twin turbo V8 powered HQ Holden apparently owes him 200K . Reckons 2nd is good for 200kmph and at 300kph has got into top. Anyone here seen his car?

elect70, Sep 16, 4:07am
But doesnt owen Evans still hold Nz speed record for fastest road car in nhis Porsche , not sure if it was actually registered though .

serf407, Sep 16, 4:44am

timbo69, Sep 16, 9:34am
Isnt it crazy that it goes faster from 100-200 than 0-100?

sr2, Sep 16, 9:37am
0-100 in 1.6sec, 0-200 in 2.6sec. (think about it).

clark20, Sep 16, 7:14pm
I have another doubt that road (WOF) tyres could achieve his.

brapbrap8, Sep 16, 7:32pm
It is power limited in 1st and 2nd gears to help with traction and drivetrain durability.

bill-robinson, Sep 16, 11:04pm
not bad 1000hp and 0.8 seconds better than a 1985 4WD escort i built for rallycross progress is a long slow thing

richardmayes, Sep 17, 12:27am
I once revved the engine of my Triumph a little when a young guy in a Subaru with lots of carbon fibre bits pulled alongside at the lights.

You should have seen how fast he blasted away, when the lights went green! It was very funny.
