Valve seat recession in 1kz engine

hi would overfueling cause valve seat recession

intrade, Sep 12, 12:14am
no your question makes no sense without way more details of what makes you think what you just asked?
a 1kz is a diesel , valve seat recession is sort-of not possible on a diesel.
unless the seats installed where made of chinese chewing gum. So explain the whole story how you conclude this?

intrade u are right cylinder head is new aftermarket and valves have lost clearance, they are trying to say overfueling has caused the problem

I suppose it could cause vsr due to high EGTs, but whether it might be an issue before holes were blown in pistons or the head cracked or warped or blew to bits around the exhaust ports or the turbo disintegrated etc. is another question.

high exhaust gas temperatures only make it thru a faulty egr system on these engines , the egr should have been cleaned and checked for correct function when a new head was fitted= standard professional practice, or the egr deleted correctly and that wont be straight forward on a electronic controlled diesel pump ,just blocking off egr would most likely set the check engine malfunction light to illuminate on dash.
Faulty injectors can cause overheating but anyone with a clue would soon see that something with the injectors is not right as the injectors should have been pop tested while the head was done anyhow back then already .

Is valve seats, or the valve faces that have worn. Is this on an fully assembled aftermarket head, or was it a blank head that had your old valves etc changed into. How long ago was the work done.

There are good reasons why its preferable to source bare heads genuine from Toyota, I think you might have found out one of them.

rim12, Sep 12, 6:38am
the head was anew blank with old valves changed into it,it is valve seats that have recessed, work was done about eight weeks ago

valve seat receded in 8 weeks? sounds like where made of putty.

over fueling won't do it, you will have holes in the pistons well before valve seats ever cause problems.

so how was it concluded the valve seats have recessed? valves might just need adjusting once more to correct gaps now that the seat have settled probably cut seat and valves wrong angles ,
if the valve clearance is out again after a further 8 weeks then you have to strip it down and inspect what part is junk the old valves or new heads valve seat inserts .
