Hi, I have an Outlander and it has started whining, male friend said it sounds like its coming from transmission (I didnt have a clue). it only does it when going uphill not on the flat. Also only does it under high revs. High pitched whine, and car has a chain not cambelt. I will take it to a garage but being a fairly gullible female am worried about being ripped off. can anyone give me some ideas on what this could be? Car drives perfect otherwise (changes smoothy between gear changes and doesnt lag when going into gear). Thanks

What we may have here is a case of "something on the way out-lander"

OP, Is this the 2.4 engine with CVT transmission or the 3 litre V6 with 6 speed "normal" auto?

Get it to a Mitsi agent, it could be a known issue.

Our CVT Outlander has a small amount of transmission whine at some speeds. Not enough to be a concern. We had the fluid changed at 80,000 kms and it made no difference. Mitsi agent tested it and said it was fine. Overseas road reviews do mention the CVT whine.

CVT Oil change. That's all you can do.
