Hi everyone, I'm looking at buying a trailer but the rego has lapsed and is now de-registered. Would this require me to assign new plates to it or would the previous plates be used, and at what cost would both these options be. Lastly whats the process for the change of ownership. Thanks

New plates. If it's deregisted, theres no need for the normal change of ownership procedure. You can just get a sale receipt from the seller and take it to vtnz to get a new wof, re register it and have new plates issued. Sorry, not sure of current prices but a call to vtnz will clear that up. I don't remember it being too expensive.
Also, I cant be sure on this, but I think once you've re registered it, you'll be eligible for 12 month wofs as an added bonus.

$98.00 to get new plate and licence(rego) for one year, just done this last week.
