Right some got a colour matched can of paint, which after application needs clearcoat. What's the best way to get as best finish as poss? Lightly sand/cut after base coat? Sand/cut after clearcoat? Sand/cut base and clear? Don't sand/cut anything? Cheers!

This is just a door too, not a whole car.

Apply base coat as per instruction on tin, thinning etc.
Wait till it drys off, goes flat. 10 or 15 mins, more if you are in no hurry.
Apply clear as per instructions as well.
Wait till dry/overnight if not force drying.
Sand with 1500, 1200, 2000 or lighter depending on gloss level required. i:e flatting right back will give a better shine, flatting with say 3000 will leave a peal.
Then go mad with a polisher (well, carefully) and shine to a high gloss.
Find some decent cutting compond, anything from 20 to 60 bucks a bottle.
If doing it by hand? good luck and hope you enjoy building up muscle lol.
Are we talking 2 pac or single pac?
Just to add, if you use a 1200 grit it will be harder to polish as the scratch will be deeper, quicker to flatten but slower to buff up.

Don't worry too much, the rest of the bus isn't that shiny lol make sure you don't get runs

Do exactly what Gunhand says and you'll be fine. What he has instructed is the ACTUAL way to do it if single pac clear. It's not really relevant these days in paint shop situations, but what he has explained is the precise way when dealing with old school acrylic laquers as a DIY project.

And what ever you do, do not sand the base coat, unless you're fixing it before the clear goes on, in which you'll have to apply more basecoat again before the clear.

All this depends on what you mean by 'a can of paint'
If it's a tin/can, then do as gun sez, but if it's a rattle can, you will have a hard job adding thinners.

Haha yeah it's a can of color matched by numbers paint! Funny Andrei!

What is the paint code?

lookoutas, Jan 25, 6:44am
The way we're going here, it has to be red

motorboy2011, Jul 23, 10:56pm
The door was red, the rest of the car is blue. Nissan bp9 code, met blue.
