the question is how good is the rest of the car rust wise?
All i recall is we changed ignitors on nissan sunny gti they had a wierd box as ignition module the size of a sandwitch toast . thats all i recall and rust of course almost any japanese car was rotten after 10 year age and went in to export to yugoslavia or turkey .etc
we never rebuilt any of them for that obvious reason. i recall gti vw where worn out at 250 to 325,000km we had a lease selling leasing cars to people with bad credit and he done 100, tousend a year so we fitted a few rebuilt gti mk1 engines to his . golf

Still plenty of parts available for them, have a look TM,to answer your question, the engines are very strong if they have been built properly.

What GTI? Pulsar GTI?

Engines are strong but dont tolerate poor maintenance that much due to the cam oilers being sensitive to being clogged by sludge, means the cams wear out. If they look clean under the oil cap then its all good, don't touch anything with any carbon or sludge build up.

The auto isn't a weak point but the car is 25 years old now so who knows?

The rest of the car is fine, just watch for normal wear and tear.
