MAZDA TITAN HELP INJ PUMP TIMING

stuart, Jun 16, 11:58pm
Hi, had my Injector pump repaired, trouble is, very little information on internet RE: flywheel timing marks and setup.
My Mechanic unfortunately has been caught out, by not having it correctly on TDC or something, and truck wont start.
Anyone have any information on which marks are which?
There are marks on more than one place on flywheel.
Thanks in advance.

what are we talking here a fully mechanical injector pump? and what is th?e pump a denso, zexel? or a bosch? or lucas. efi or fully mechanical pump?

How hard is it to get rocker cover off and glows out. If easy take cover off and no 1 glow out insert piece of welding wire into head and use to determine when piston is on tdc. Look at valves to determine if on correct cycle. Line Dowell up with 1 pipe on pump theoretically doing this will time no 1 tdc. If this gets it going a dti should be use to correct injection timing

mazda rotary mechanical injector pump.
Fully stripped down and rebuilt by professionals.
The issue is the timing etc

Yes he had rocker off and done all that, now.
He admits he should have done that to start with before pump was taken off for servicing.
However, he also wanted some tech information for exact marks to line up too.
If it was as simple as being TDC on number 1 it would be done and dusted?

i wonder whom that mechanic is? seriously post 3 has the answer on a fully mechancal pump thats all there is to it correct timing , but if they even lack the most basic of knowhow then i would be seriously worried to even let them near it.
it would be different if it is a efi pump it can get more difficult but the basic setting procedure would be the same there is just more reasons why it would still not start on the efi pump = why i asked what pump it was.

if the pump is cambelt driven then its most easy if it is a sproket in oil type setup like on some of the nissans then it can get more difficult because you can be a gear tooth out and its not so easy to get this correct and you must find the markings , set tdc and then there must be a mark on gears relating to the other gear thats how nissan have it 2 dots match each others gear tooth on pump sprocket.
information could likely be gotten from autodata online australia mitchel1 or haynes online . but i dont think i would need information for a easy fully mechanbical pump seting its all the same thing i will tell you why a efi pump is more difficult next

Now if this was a efi pump setup procedure is still the same but if you are 2 tooth out the efi probably would try and star and run with smoke or lack of power, due to the fact the computer is compensating for the wrong timing , this is not going to happen on a fully mechan ical you will have extreem white smoke if the pump is out or extreem harsh combustion if the pump is wrong in the other direction, and you will get it to run with simple top dead center and pump about to spray preload you can usually make it spray by twisting the pump on its slots play so you know your are near it. its got to spray a bit sooner then tdc so if it sprays on tdc your near it and might need to move it 1 tooth if you run out of adjustment on the slots when you have absolut no markings you could find.
the efi compensation is what will screw you over like this but not the non efi= easy as could be.

Thanks for your info intrade.always appreciated.
I have been informed that he does have the necessary information now.

Oh btw
Prior to this truck getting the Injector Pump overhauled.
I must have taken it to 5 different "expert" mechanics, who all reckoned they had fixed it.
It was my Mechanic (who specialises more on earthmovers etc) who correctly diagnosed the problem.

what pump is it a rotary pump?
that sort of tool is used to set the timing absolut correct on a rotary but normally if you know what your doing you can guess them to be right pritty easy like no smoke no harsh noises and reaching full rpm like stated in manufacturer specs , if it meets all these things then you could put the clock in to it and it would not be out of tollerance when you check it. ,
http://www.jhmbuttco.com/acatalog/ast4398g.jpg i got the tool but only used it once to see if i guessd it correctly haha. i have the bgs http://www.motorsport-tools.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/225x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/8/1/8157
