Should be ok, might need to fit a trans cooler if doing lots of big hills, do any others use them, pays to look at what's out there doing the job now. Big dollars if it packs up.Depreciation is also high. Solid chassis is better.

Hard to find a better tow vehicle. Not only are they rated to tow an enormous load, they also have tow stability control which can save your neck when towing like nothing else, should something go wrong.
Parts are very reasonably priced for VW in NZ, you just have to make sure it's being looked after properly, and ideally by a third party VW specialist. Pick a nice one, bring ALL maintenance up to date using the CORRECT fluids, keep it that way and chances of reliability are very good. I would service the transmission and 4wd system fairly often if towing heavy loads regularly but other than that a good example should continue to be reliable in the transmission department.
Fuel economy is excellent and best of all, they are such a nice vehicle you can use it every day without any compromise in comfort, safety or running costs.
BTW, deprecation is only an issue if you buy at the wrong part of the cycle. There is no such thing as "Bad" depreciation only good and bad times to buy particular vehicles. Not sure what age you are looking at but Touregs can be fantastic depreciation wise once they are around the 20K mark.
