An interesting mix of cars from high end BMW to the super low end ignis!

My pick is on the CX5 but then I did buy one. But now having driven it to Tauranga and back it really has cemented why we bought it.

So what do people think of the list? What would you choose for car of the year?

bryshaw, Oct 10, 3:53pm
Does someone get a kick back from the dealers of those makes? Knowing all Holden's faults I am surprised it made the list.

Agree holden astra - what a joke !

Suzuki ignis lolololl biscuit tin on wheels.

Where are the toyota's and nissans ?

harm_less, Oct 10, 4:16pm
Hyundai Ioniq - Good to see an EV shortlisted.

marmar1, Oct 10, 4:31pm
None of those cars would be on my to buy list.

db.price, Oct 10, 4:38pm
The Kodiaq was nice - didn't drive it but was a nice interior. The CX 5 is a great car - yes I'm biased - but looking at some of the options put forward it is in strong contention.

tamarillo, Oct 10, 5:52pm
Why? You do know it's a whole new model and is rating highly in Aussie comparisons. Probably should have given it a new name as it carries the bad taste of previous Astras with it.

miggle1, Oct 10, 6:02pm
yawnfest - I'd take the skoda as it's mildly interesting

apollo11, Oct 10, 6:03pm
Are the latest Astras also unreliable? It must take a lot of skill to make a car that unreliable for so many years!

marmar1, Oct 10, 6:11pm
If push comes to shove then I would take the BMW as I like sedans or station wagons.

bwg11, Oct 10, 6:55pm
Very fair comment throughout, but I would still take a punt on a dinosaur (V8 commodore), a Mini or a Rangie.

mals69, Oct 10, 7:39pm
What about Vauxhall Astra for a name change ?

Does the quality of the interior not get reviewed these
days ? Below par compared to what some japanese
car companies provide for similar money.

mals69, Oct 10, 7:43pm
Still cheap and tacky looking, probably bit early
to gauge reliability.

mopeds, Oct 10, 7:52pm
No brainer Mazda CX-5 all day

db.price, Oct 10, 8:33pm
Yes call them Vauxall -because that inspires confidence too lol.

The Astras are made in Korea now? At the old Daewoo plant?

stevo2, Oct 10, 8:48pm
Skoda Kodiaq for me and Hyundai Ionic for Mrs Stevo
Although the CX5 is going to be more reliable etc than the Skoda, its a bit on the bland side for me as I like cars a little "different'

franc123, Oct 10, 9:02pm
Yawnfest, you know the winner will.be some soggy SUV with alleged green credentials that wins the prize over the next soggy SUV because they've thrown in an extra sun visor airbag or it throws 50 grams less CO2 per km up the nose of the soggy SUV driver behind them.

fordcrzy, Oct 10, 9:02pm
who's in the electric category?. my bet is one of the poser electric cars will take it

mals69, Oct 10, 9:03pm
lololol holden cruze was built there too was it not ?
Cruze being a rebadged daewoo has been bandied about ?

The hatch built in Poland and sedan in Korea according to
wikiP.

kecal, Oct 10, 9:08pm
what a sorry list of pathetic cars , the only one id touch would be the cx5 ,
but overall there is nothing to brag about,
just like an aa vehicle inspection not worth the paper its written on

db.price, Oct 10, 10:11pm
Well SUVs are where the market is at and while they were soggy handling when they first came out they have now significantly improved. I know our CX5 handles very well, almost no body roll, great grip and just feels solid on the road. Certainly many others we drove were similar. Plus most SUVs now get similar fuel economy to a sedan or station wagon.

db.price, Oct 10, 10:13pm
The Kodiaq looks better than the VW Tiguan but they are both fairly German - a fair bit boxy and a very busy interior.

marmar1, Oct 11, 6:01am
Re-looking at the list, I would say most of the judges are woman.

laurelanne, Oct 11, 6:27am
How many of you experts have driven all these cars.

ntalke, Oct 11, 7:01am
By looking at the Cars and comparing their AA magazine it matches AA style
