There ya go easy as 10 examples of tiida failed transmissions and the reason why all failed.

thejazzpianoma, Aug 18, 11:42pm
I get you now!

I have answered this in the other thread so here is the copy and paste.

If what you are wanting is an explanation of how they break?

Well that's the interesting thing. From what I have seen it's not just one or two problems like you usually get. For example Aisin A55 transmissions as used in Volvos etc tend to have valve body issues as do their next model 6 speed transmission. Honda CVT's eat their clutch packs but are otherwise good etc.

With the Tiida transmission it's a big mixed bag. Sometimes its bearings, sometimes its valve body, sometimes its speed sensors or stepper motor failures. Sometimes it's wiring. They are an incredibly simple transmission and actually nice to work on once removed. However they just don't seem to be designed to last.

Alas the more you bag tiidas and jump on that soap box the more there are being sold
So

The 10

After all jazz your bias is so extreme that ya cannae really base it on google generality as it is so specific and hey 10 can't be hard ta find if ya RIGHT .

thejazzpianoma, Aug 18, 11:49pm
I have seen more than 10, I worked next to the guy rebuilding them, but as above unlike most transmissions where there is one or two weak points that are easy to pinpoint and account for 90 percent of the failures. These are a pretty mixed bag from what I have seen.

So draw from that what you will.

If you are wanting to get something more concrete with regard to my estimate of them having their first failure by about 120k. If you read enough of those links you will see that figure quoted quite a bit. Which is interesting because that is exactly what the rebuilder estimated as well.

thejazzpianoma, Aug 18, 11:52pm
Right now. it's actually very hard to find unless you go to the rebuilders as I have and see them there. In the other thread I quoted how few were for sale on here with high enough km to have had a problem. We won't see the fecal matter hit the fan for about 3 more years by my estimation.

So it's those who are contemplating buying that Tiida with 60K or more on the clock now and intend on keeping it for a few years who need to be mindful. If you buy in at low enough km and flick it again well before 100K you will likely get a great run.

Each to their own jazz
i did specify in another thread re cam bearings and building race engines for durability and long life.
And explained that first hand as wherein a manufacturer may SPECIFICALLY build an engine as all manufacturers engines are built.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF BASICS

Teaches one HOW to build the same engine PROPERLY

I.E. Any six cyl engine circle track racing backed off at 7000 rpm+ WILL drop a big end on the further est feed from the oil pump due to camshaft off load AND simply putting a new cam bearing in there and changing the flow orifice WILL increase the big end oil pressure.
Oh and when one of ya bulletproof engines comes back destroyed ya simply fit a cut out rotor and make sure ya there on the track when the owner getzz told by his NEW driver that it wouldn't pull 7 grand.
E dropped im with one punch- LOL

To be fair jazz, you have a history of being fairly disingenuous when it comes to Japanese vehicles, so your word about what you've "seen" doesn't really cut it.
I know our local towies, who we work with a little bit, love euros as they keep them in business.

Well i dont i say its all crap you just got to find whats not as much crap amoung all the crap. quite a lot of car makers have some years and models who are lesser crap.
lets see if i can name 10 lol

2 tdi volkswagen with 6 speed manual and 8 valve 1.9-2,0 Diesel
3 any old fiat with 1,7 or 1,9 diesel
4 ssangyoung range with 2,8 clone copy 5 cilnder engines found in musso to 2006 .
5 nissan safari with non turbo 4.2 from 1980s to early 90s
6 toyota hilux L block Diesel only till 1988 with rocker-roller valve train and no turbo.
7 the nissan sentra range engines with carburettor .

Are you kidding? Do you really expect a reply. its in the same way that the constantly quoted "neighbour" with a Tiida only gearbox rebuilding company has never been named.

snoopy221, Aug 20, 2:00pm
If ya look at any engine the oil gallery is see big co joined hole from zee main bearing to zee cam bearing and zee con rod bearing.
camshaft float off load is the general reason why no1 big end drops oil pressure off loaded at high rpm. Simply restricting the orifice is a known given for race engines.

I've given up giving a stuff about this discussion.

To be honest, there "WAS" a guy in Tauranga fixing CVTs or supplying on an exchange basis. I think he specialised in Nissan.
I have a feeling he worked from his home in Otumoetai but unsure on that.
I also thought he went out of business a while back but also unsure on that.

Edit, Just had a quick google search and it appears he has gone.

Not enough work aye lol

snoopy221, Oct 21, 6:11am
So do we deduce someone had a bright idea for a new business and spread the word that all these tiida trannys were gunna fail and someone took them at face value and spread the word further?

And the truth may well be a failed business-as not enough tiida trannys dying?
