96 Corolla Tacho issue

mk3zephyr, Feb 4, 8:41pm
Was driving along the road yesterday in the Rolla (Work bomb) and looked at the dash and saw the Tacho just drop from 1600 to 800, Wont go any higher than that, Car still runs just fine, Stopped at the shop and then continued home, Tacho just went up to 800 and stayed there until the car was shut down, Bit of a bugger as everything worked in the Car, Any of you Toyota people have any idea what the cause could be, Thanks.

tacho you mean the Rpm. it should be easy enough to work out with a wiring diagramm. . at a guess it be something on the cluster. . iknow i adisted the rpm on my 92 hilux for the imput from the 1982 motor was some potentiometer i could turn. . bad contact or something i would think

Yes the RPM dropped which was displayed on the Tachometer if you want to be pedantic about it,

Intrades answers better than mine,
I would have said crankshaft sensor, but it would run badly too. ( If it even has one. )
