Mazda familia headlight problem

my gf haza 1989 familia,a wile ago the high beams would not work they would flash by them selves on and off.now when she has them on low beam they will flash on and off consantly sometimes the indercators will flick aswell.what could this be any ideas!

most likely the combination switch(the one the indicator stalk etc connects to) just get another one

they have a trembler relay in them, so if the current draw is too high they don't just blow a fuse and leave you at 100km/hr in the dark, the bigger the overload the faster they pulse the lights
check the wiring and bulb ratings. and the relay
get a sparky to check it - you don't want a fire in the wiring

switch is common failure. If keeping car i would replace with new around the $120+gst mark. Never heard of a trembler relay in one. have repaired replaced 100's of switches. If you clean it and there is no silver left on contacts throw it away also you will need to tension the contacts!
