What is a realistic driving time Chch-Picton at a steady 100kmh! Cheers.

poppajn, Sep 21, 7:34am
4 and 1/2 hours, non breaks.

tigertim20, Sep 21, 7:58am
4 hours. no breaks. no tickets.

Yeah my 2E powered Corolla can get to Blenheim in 3.5 hours with one quick pit stop. Add an easy 0.5 hour to Picton.

alimac1, Sep 21, 8:34am
4 hours

phlippy, Sep 21, 10:16am
whats the time from chch to invercargill!

tigertim20, Sep 21, 10:44am
6-6.5 hours depending on what traffic you hit leaving chch and entering dunedin. maybe 7 hours if you get a bad run.

i heard of a truck driver who fully loaded with fright in a 40" semi and went from ch-ch railway station to picton ferry wharf and it only took him 3hrs 57mins lol

A 40 inch semi would get ANYone loaded with fright.

So you only "heard of".

Frights right, as a trukie myself I,d say this is a make believe story; work out the k,s and get the average speed; does;nt add up

Last couple of times I was through there Ch Ch -Picton one trip took me just under 4.75 hours with a stop in Kaikoura was a leisurely speed in a reasonably powerful car.
The second trip was the next day after bringing a car back over on an evening Interislander sailing after collecting it in Wellington.
Set off from Picton real early and was in the Christchurch area about 4 hours later (bypassed Christchurch by going the highway 72 scenic route south from Amberley) got home Alexandra 9.75 hours after leaving Picton -2 stops on way Oxford ( exactly 4 hours after leaving Picton)for 15min lunch break and Lake Pukaki for a 10min stretch then home.
Hardly any traffic on the road that day plus nice still & clear weather it was, I must say which was great.
It's a big drive though but enjoyed every minute of it.

Off the ferry about 7pm and the trip to Chch 4 hours 35 minutes with a loaded racecar trailer attached, towing with Volkswagen W8. Only thing that overtook me the whole trip was the CourierPost truck. S/he was flying along & I couldnt keep up. I pretty much stayed between 95-105kms the whole way

Daytime trips tend to be 4 hours Chch to Blenheim and then another 25 minutes to Picton
