2001-2003 Honda Odyssey erratic idle.

Guys I've got a bit of a headscratcher for you all.
2.3l Honda Odyssey had an an erratic idle in neutral/parkwhen it was warmed up.
It would idle at 700 then go up to 1200 in fairly even cyclic manner.
It was sent to our mechanic along with another identical vehicle that ran perfectly. No air leaks found, throttle body swapped with no effectand then EGR valve swapped and BINGO. nice smooth even idle. Problem solved and replacement EGR fitted
Fast forward a weekand a happy customer took delivery.
around 150=200km laterthe idle issue is back with a vengance.
NOW its idle varies between 700 and 2500 rpm and its doing it both in neutral and drive.
It DRIVES perfectly once up off of idle.
What on earth could have happened! what would you think would be the fault!

Idle speed control motor! Or possibly coolant temp sensor faulty! Has it been scanned to see what the engine is doing while faulting!

It was scanned the first time .Codes cleared due to the old Jap import dead battery syndrome. Once the egr was fitted no new codes came up and it ran perfectly. It drove Auckland to Tauranga with NO problems and of course the issue reared its ugly head today

Try blocking off EGR valve temporarly with a plate just in case you got a dud valve.

Been collectively ripping our thinning hair out with this very issue over the last 2 weeks, all of the above rectifies it for a while but then the bastard Boomerangs.
Get back to you next week.

I know you put a new throttle body on it but did you try adjusting the TPS!
It sounds very simplistic I know, but I??

air lock in the cooling system. or a air leak

Check out your PCV valve. If its the F22/F23 motor its a likely cause

kazbanz, Nov 13, 1:54pm
In all honesty I don't know. I suspect it was a case of -"that fixed it" so look no further

motorway, Nov 15, 11:20pm
Blocked the EGR valve off, no problems for 4 days now.
