Mating up subaru auto gearbox

fish1963, Jan 17, 11:29pm
i'm hoping that there is some cleaver subaru buffs out there unlike myself.i pulled the motor out of my subaru 250t to fix the compuslery blown head gasket.was bolting motor back to auto gearbox and didn't have tork converter seated in gearbox properly before i tightened up the bellhousing bolts.there was a bang then bellhousing bolts and nuts went loose.seperated motor and box again and pushed tork converter into box correctly.started motor and runs great but got in car to take for a drive and no go.auto box is no go.no drive wot so ever.gutted.have pulled motor out again and see nothing wrong with tork converter except it doesn't appear to have any oil in it.and yes gearbox does have oil.any help or ideas would be bloody awesome.has this happened to anyone else!do you no anyone i could ring about this!

did you have the torque converter bolted up to flexiplate! Was it seater correctly. i.e theres 3 points that it has to slip down befor its sitting correctly.

You've probably stuffed the oil pump drive.Get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it, converters must always be seated correctly before attempting to reconnect the two units. For the uninitiated some shop manuals even quote how deep it should fit inside the bellhousing when its correctly fitted, or you can do this yourself when the engine is removed.

cheaper to get a whole box rather than muck around.good luck.

Make sure the converter is locked in before installing .

Take the whole box and torque converter to a trans specialist and tell them exactly what happened. With a bit of luck they will have some second hand bits and will fix it for you without insisting on doing a total overhaul.
Actually, take it around asking for quotes until you find someone willing to rectify the damage for you. It's a common enough scenerio for them to know what's needed without stripping it down.

so it it possible to replace pump or pump gears from the front of gearbox if i remove front diff!i have a workshop manual but doesn't an exploded view of auto box.does anyone have a diagram of auto box they could email me!email is [email protected]
,cheers.

I wouldn't recommend that you try thatjob yourself unless you have worked on auto transmissions before. I doubt you can buy the individual gaskets/seals you will need, nor the second-hand parts the shop will have.
You also need to get the torque converter checked to make sure it hasn't damaged the splines inside it.

If you are really determined though there are manuals here.
