Ok it was just only reason we could figure why they all had worn /burnt front clutch packs ,the cars were all under 5 years old so reasoned it would be due to sitting at lights in D ,didnt see it on NZ new cars .Dealers only wanted bare minimum toget on the road & ensure the owners bought mechanical warranty, so front pack fibres replaced ,flushedback in the car& back to dealerwithin the dayall for $600 (in 1997) It would be enough to put you off buying a auto JUC

When you say front clutch pack Elect. do you mean front or first! Because the front pack often isn't first, and for that matter there are nearly always two packs engaged for any particular gear.
Autos are generally cheaper to maintain than manuals these days in my opinion. Given the milage you get out of an auto before you have to overhaul them, and the fact that they nearly always overhaul with only clutches, bands and seals. they are cheaper than the cost of a gearbox overhaul with synchros and bearings which comes after doing probably two clutches at the same milage.
Not true in every case, but in my experiance, that's how it works.
