only for posers who cannot drive such as yourself. Stop listening to motoring journos. They probably know less than you.

Very, very fair point Bob. I suppose the "gutless" aspect in my mind is only due to the type of driving I do, lots of hills and rural twisty roads, where the 318i felt lacking in partial throttle torque.
But, why buy a 318i when one could pick up a 323i or 328i for similar coin!

Yes 318 that's was a joke Like "where is the power" and a BMW 540M that was a great car

The shortage of knowledge, experience, and skills with BMW's here takes one's breath away.

Could you please tellme where you have seen this ,a friend owns a mint 2 owner NZ new 1988 M325 & best offer hes had is $4500 or$2500 from dealer.yet to seeE36 M3 for that sort of priceI looked &waited 6 months for 1under 10G$in end bought 328 s

Genuine M325i seem to fetch around 10k for a very tasty one, I'd rather a 328i coupe with three pedals myself, each to their own.

As per the previous thread different people have different standards (and yes many of us have driven them).A 318 is going to be hugely underwhelming if you're coming from an Accord or Camry or similar.

Was simply stating in reply to the claim that 1980s perfromance BMWs aren't quick, they still hold their own whether you like 0-100 of 1/4 mile times or not.
And yep I've seen early E36 M3s with asking prices as low as $14k while E30 M325i as high as 12, E30 M3s over four times that amount, it's another story what they end up selling for though.

haha this has turned into quite a heated debate! All I wanted was a nice weekend cruiser/toy.I think I'll stay away from a BMW now :) you are all crazy! If you find a nice cruiser near me let me know.

Thanks all!

Not bad, but a bit far away!

Nice looking cars and they handle fairly well for a FWD barge, but the build quality is borderline terrible on them.
