Value of Cortina race car

Hi all,
just after peoples thoughts on an idea of value of my car. Its a MK5 set up as a circuit/hill climb/tarmac rally car. Im going to remove the engine and box, fuel cell and pump, seats and harnesses but everything else will be there. Has a homologated cage, big brakes with discs on the rear, fibreglass bonnet, bilstein suspension, nolathane all through, XR6 diff with LSD, new wiring through out. Has a 302 windsor and toyota 5 speed set up in it. (but won't be selling that) but mounts will be there so easy to stick another in. Body is tidy, not mint but respectable. Lots of spares too. Any thoughts appreciated.

dollar reserve should get a fair price

Only worth what people will pay! Problem is that with an engine transplant, it makes the car ineligible for some events.

You are removing a lot of the good stuff anyway but as a cage alone costs a fair bit, if anyone is wanting to build a car, then it can save alot of time and money, but it is not a car that is going to be sought after.

Impossible to price it so suggest you list it with a high reserve, low opening bid but make sure there are heaps of pics.Once it has been around for a while and word gets around, you might get an offer.

Does it have a competition history!

Is it yellow!

Socram, you are right, its not a particularly sought after car, they never had a performance image like the earlier cortinas and escorts. Still, someone will be keen on it if the price is right. I like your idea with the pricing, at least I can negotiate with a bidder if someone is keen I guess. has some history, Ive owned iot for 19 years, and built it from scratch. Has won some trophies, and class wins in taranaki tarmac rally as well. has a log book of course. Clark 20, no,not the yellow one that you are thinking of. Theres not much cortina left in that one!

Why not sell it withthe motor & rest of the gear that you are planing to rip out!

You should be able to sell it for the cost of replacing the items you are hoping to keep.

Personally,my thoughts are look & find a spare/old motor that will bolt up in the hole & same again with seats etc.

I know I would not even look at a older car that had been raced & gutted, but IF it was ready to run (with a lesser motor) I would think about it.

At the end of the day you have to make your own mind up.

The motor and box etc is worth far more than I will ever get for it by selling it with the car. I guess I dont want to muck around fitting another engine and mucking around getting it going, when I have a new project to move on with. I know its not financailly the best option, but sometimes time is a valuable commodity too. ;-)

I sold my Cortina circuit car (Mk1 two door) late last year. It went to Australia.

If you want money and have a bit of time then I would dismantle it as sell it as individual parts. Everyone wants a project and they seem happy to ignore the option of buying a completed car and go on to spend tripple or quadruple that amount buying bits and working for three yearsto end up with an un-sorted part finished mess.

Sell it in bits, and then let the bare shell get all dusty and sell that for about the same as if it was rolling.

Right now I would guess it as $900-$1,500 (without a photo)
