We have a 99 mondeo lx wagon, 2.0 16v that surges badly under load. It starts and runs fine unless loaded up, recent plugs, oil filter, but have had trouble with fuel pump previously.I know these are POS but any ideas! Leads seem expensive, was told it may be the fuel pump, no engine check light comes up and car runs fine again when changed down or less throttle.

If it has a fuel filter that's the first thing I'd be changing, they don't cost a whole lot normally. Your description of the fault seems to indicate a fuel delivery problem but there days cars are way more tricky than the olden days where I come from.
