Check viscous fan is working correctly, a guy at work tried a lot of things before trying the fan. His was overheating under load ie towing up a hill.

Thermostats and visco fan units packing up are typical on those, the latter is part of the water pump and is replaced as a unit.

Remove and check the water pump to see if the impeller has rotted off . They have a steel impeller can literally rust away . The car will behave until you start working it hard . Get it checked , you do not want to cook a diesel engine ( very expensive ) .
