I'm looking at getting a personalised plate. My question is, what happens to my current plate! Will I need to return it or something!

Yeah they send you an envelope/bag thing to send the old ones back in.

Take the old plates along when you do the plate change (you'll need a replacement WoF sticker and a replacement Rego sticker anyway).Fill out the appropriate form for the plate change.
Can't remember, but they might want to sight the new plates.
Old plates are the property of the transport agency, but you own the PP.

When you get the plates it comes with a new rego label and a return prepaid envelope to put the old plates into and just send them back.

Unless you say they are stolen the plates or something or lost. The amount of number plates you see on nz garage walls. :P

We did this today at vtnz. They needed to see the new plates, we had to fill in a form and it cost the grand sum of $0.20c to change over, and they said to drop the old plates back to them in the next couple of days.
Since the public registrations are closed, you must have an invite from a current member to be able to register and post in this thread.
