Maybe he's got it the wrong way round. Best to run the car for 30 secs after starting cold before driving off. Love my neighbours kid driving dads car. Starts, pulls 4 or 5 grand straight away and he's off!

a car idles at around 850Rpm.Engine does not get full oil pressure untill approx 2000 Rpm.
So idle warm up or cool down is not a good thing to do

Yes oil pressure in your bearings is lower at 850rpm than 2000rpm.

But so are the inertial forces that are trying to overcome the pressure of the oil film to create metal-on-metal contact between the faces of the bearings.

Has anyone pulled apart 2 indenticle motorsrun to 100000kmsthe same way and measured the wear to prove or disprove this theory. And has anyone had a normal (turbo or not) motor fail as a result of either and can prove that not warming up or warming down was the problem!
