Try google maps and have a look man. You would think there would be more than 1 way

Those two bridges are often shut at the moment - may be better to go via Tekapo/Fairlie, or down to Oamaru.

at Gore at the moment about to head to Invercargillto pick up vehicle ,any body know for sure if the bridges are open at Waimate/ will check back on the net later in Iver.thanks regards kev

be better off hitting the kilmog (its not bad at all) than the lindis and the cluden. unbraked load down both those mentioned, rather you than me.

poppajn, Mar 6, 6:09am
A choice from Roxburgh to the top of the Lindis, or State Hiway 1Saddle Hill to top of the Kilmog, SH 1 would win every time.

just do the kilmog towed a mitsi l200 back a few weeks ago on a trailer we had some brake issues! Which ended up with no trailer brakes and just the old 3.0D lux she was a grunt but we made it fine

mbikeman1, Mar 6, 10:27am
i know you can go alonmg the coast from dunedin to about the kilmog is that the saddle hill as mentioned above!

gooddealz2, Mar 6, 12:02pm
You could always turn off at Palmerston.Go through to Middlemarch then through to Outram and then back onto State Highway for rest of journey.

xacoon, Mar 6, 7:48pm
Looks like he is heading north so by the time he hits palmerston all the big hills have been and gone. would have to go the pig root and through ranfurly if you wanted to avoid hills the way you are talking too, mcraes hill is as bad as the lindis with a load on.

alimac1, Mar 6, 7:51pm
I'd say do the Kilmog. It's not that bad, and there is a slow vehicle lane going up

Yes we did as suggested and from Invercargillvia Tapanui ,Omaku to Roxburgh lunch onsat ,then to Alexandra stayed the night; and then on to Palmerston for lunch Sunday,off tosis place At WestonCrown Head hill, Rosemond for a chew of the fat,and a free afternoon tea;then to Oamaru and hopped up the road to Timaru;sweet home Sweet home.
Bloody nice to be home ,regards Kev
Any body on that road this weekend may have seen us; tow vehicle was a white Ford courier King Cab, loaded with crap we bought en-route;plus camping gear, plus tow vehicle on a A frame

Long tiring trip especially at 90 klm but the beauty of that trip, was that we were able to combine several purchases at Dunedin,then Green Island (wood working machine) andWaikari,Kaikorai Valley Road(trailer) then to Balclutha to drop off some hot rod bits,then the longhaul down to Invercargill to pick up the vehicle,and return viaGore to Alex to Palmy to Oamaru and then home to Timaru ;
