im having a hard time trying to find a starter motor for my 302 winsor.it has a manual bellhousing(alloy) and a 157 tooth flywheel.I got a new one of here to suit a manual but didnt fit and today i tryed a big old school one that didnt fit.The problem is the gear on the starter is to far away from the flywheel to engage.my question is how many different types of starters are there and could the flywheel be to small!

ford manual starter is just an auto starter with an 8 mm spacer. the ford part may be hard to find but you could easily make one

or it could be you have a cleveland belhousing (suits the 164 tooth flywheel) and you have a 157 tooth flywheel (windsor). Im guessing thats what you mean by to far away (from centre of flywheel !)

roadrunner starters . never look back after installing one. once you find something that fits,or you can measure it and get one made
