The most underated car ever?

I actually quite like that shape, I used to have one myself, but it was automatic. Still, was a nice car to drive.

foxdonut, Jun 6, 12:19am
Well please. define it for us now, because I submit to you that the world record breaking Xj220 never gets mentioned in comparisons against it class an is far more under ratedthan the ZZw30 "Mrs" that was universally hated by both MR2 owners and everyone else who didn't carry their dog in a handbag AND whose market failure was the key contributor to Toyota's not producing another MR.

It performed about as well as the original 87 spec SC MR2, managing to be both worse looking and slower than the car it replaced AND killed an entire line of cars to come.

It even got the arse out of GT500. The only thing it had going for it was that a race team could depanel and gut the stupid thing in an afternoon and rebuilt it into a whole new car the next day.

My p11 Nissan Primera was definately underated!
Not too fast in a straight line but I used to mop the floor with other more expensive and powerful cars when the roads got twisty!

murdoko, Jun 6, 12:43am
the p11 was once a intl touring car champ.

Subaru SVX.
Apart from the trans issues, these cars are fantastic to drive.
Over $90k when new (that's when you could buy a nice house for that much).
The head of Subaru had one and was pretty special in 1992.
I had one of the last, being a 1996 and it was flawless in every respect.
That 1993 silver one on trademe looks remarkable like mine.

xacoon, Jun 6, 12:46am
yeh mt was more entertaining.

franc123, Jun 6, 12:50am
I'd agree, there was nothing wrong with those, they went just as good if not better than the previous models, they were more comfortable and even more refined, the styling was fine and the "star trek" dash was a nice change from the norm but was still typically Honda functional and easy to use.Its the bland model after that one that Honda stuffed up and nobody bought due to it being a total yawnfest!

audi_s_ate, Jun 6, 12:53am
Wow that is a lot quicker than I thought. Must be a reasonably light car too with just 190hp. That is not far off legacy rs speed of the same era.

vtecnet, Jun 6, 1:34am
http://www.youtube.com/watch!v=hEi9oNnehYY a nice Road Test vid of the SVX by the same people that reviewed the Honda Prelude

J31 Maxima. They look better than a Camry (then again, what doesn't!) and they're far better built than any (massively overrated) Falcodore.

foxdonut, Jun 7, 4:57am
You guys are crazy. Don't any of you ever look beyond jap import economy cars from the last 20 years!

toxicgreen., Jun 7, 5:01am
Huh! You just sell guns ah! Like want to kill everything, everyones accomplishments,,,crazy .uck

foxdonut, Jun 7, 5:03am
Lol, go back to Formula Fail with your cold 'cilinders' and pop rivet diffuser.

Hows your komputa guy! Got that monster running 9 seconds yet!

toxicgreen., Jun 7, 5:06am
Things going great Computor guy beat any dyno doh anyday.Dyno guyz are factory workers.stink as

vjregal770, Jun 7, 5:16am
I actually had an SS Commodore before the Maxima. It might not have the sexy look or sound of the SS but the Max craps on it everywhere else.

I have an old Cadillac too that will likely outlive both the Maxima and its owner, given half a chance. :-)

So I'm going by experience here, not ingrained prejudice.

what the!

thejazzpianoma, Jun 7, 9:22pm
That would be more my definition of a "factory sleeper" but I see where you are coming from! Good choice!

Sort of a poor mans version of the Thema 8.32 which was automotive engineering with a sense of humor and mischief at its finest. (for those unfamiliar, thats a mild mannered looking square Lancia sedan with a Ferrari engine and an electric spoiler. all factory standard in 1986)

The fiat Marea 2.0 was sort of the "last of the line" of that sort of thing from Fiat sadly. The Marea I think ticks both box's, "Factory Sleeper" + "Underated"

Incidentally, I am using the NZ definition of underrated. Not sure what a Sedicivalvole goes for overseas but if the price is right it may fit both definitions there!

For those looking the specs up with heckling in mind, yes you could buy considerably quicker cars but the likes of the Marea is also cheap, practical and quite utilitarian looking which was what made it fun.
