perfect cars, will have sunflowers come out the exhaust and dead baby seals will come back to life. You only need to fill it once in its life it is that economical and you can even fit a stable of miniature horses in the boot.

There you go Jazz, saved you some time.

as i said in the other thread - i know someone that as quoted $2.5k to get the brakes fixed on a vw golf.

did you meet them at the pub! I got quoted close to $3000 to get a replacement CV joint from peugeot for the 405. Good thing I went to BNT and paid $80 for their one.

Not even Jazz is going to be so nice about a Mk4 with that engine.

Far better off with the turbo 1800 or even the five cylinder

Hi Taipan,
As vetec said the 1.8 Turbo (which generally means a GTI or GT Wagon) is th engine to get. Don't be scared of it being a turbo it gives you heaps more go for about the same amount of fuel usage as the 2.0.

The only advantage of the 2.0 is its stupidly simple to work on being a single cam, but in reality it lets a very good car down through lack of performance and fairly average fuel economy.

The 1.8 Turbo is a really top engine thats used extensively in VW's and Audi's. So long as oil changes are adhered to the Turbo's last a very long time and if you do need to work on a Turbo some shopping around and logical thinking will generally make it affordable even if replacement is required.

The rest of the car is very good, they do have a few electrical quirks and minor issues but there are many well documented cost effective fix's for those. It is preferable to get one "scanned" before purchase if possible to make sure that all electrics are in order.

Overall, a fantastic car and a huge amount of vehicle for the money. Lovely to drive both on the open road and around town. The 1.8T has plenty of go for very reasonable fuel usage.

Parts are very inexpensive and easy to obtain. BNT stock all the regular replacement parts for a good price but personally I prefer to order from the likes of Qualitat who can provide you with genuine parts for very little money.

Don't listen to the many knockers who have never owned one and don't have the ability to understand anything that is not a Corolla or a Falcon.

Yeah not quite, its the MK5 Golf that comes with a troupe of dancing girls, prevents global warming and feeds the hungry.
The MK4 is a lovely car though (with the right engine), but isn't quite in a field all of its own like the MK5 is.
