Who knows about the Holden SV6?

Considering buying one as an everyday drive but have always had Clubbys or very old models such as the premier or kingswood and not had a lot to do with the v6 models.
Any good or bad experiences! Models better than others etc!

Thanks heaps

Were off tomorrow to have a look at a couple of VZ's and a VE tomorrow.

What are they like on gas! Have read a lot of the info pages but have generally found in the past what they say they are capable of and what happens in general everyday driving often differs.

There seem to be a couple of ex police cars around at the mo so would assume they would have all been fixed after the recall!

got a vz a couple years ago for my parents and seems to be actually quite good on gas towing a caravan on the open road about 13L/100ks and around town hes had it down to 9L/100k far better than the vys 3.8.as far as the cam chains speak to the guys at dury auto wreckers they say there has been a few but not to bad

Thanks for that, would be towing a boat too so good to know how it goes towing as well. Hubby has delt with the guys from Drury a few times so he will give them a call on Tues. Cheers

Drive a VE Omega as well as the VE SV6, Some prefer the Omega over the SV6, the four speed auto + the Omega diff ratio are different to the 5 speed auto + SV 6 diff ratio. Some Omegas look good when fitted with different rim/ tyre combos compared to the original balloon tyres/ steel rims.
The rain water that pools on the rear spolier can end up in the boot when opening the bootlid.

certainly a lot of car there for the money

My boss had a VZ SV6 for a while. Avoid. Horrible car.

Bizarre back end setup that is rock-hard when you're driving straight so that it smashes over every tiny bump in the road, but it still floats around behind you like a big heavy barge the minute you try to tempt its handling.

Performance is fine for what it is, but definitely no V8.
Almost as much power as a Toyota Aurion!

Ugly base-spec interior with bright red bits in the seats, perhaps 5 year old boys think these look like racing car seats!

Try one, and then try a BA XR6, now those are nice cars.

(And I say that as someone who is not really interested in Fords, or Holdens, or the Ford vs Holden thing.)

Toyota 2GR-FE - 204kw @ 6200rpm, 346nm @ 4700rpm
GM LY7 (VZ version) - 190kw @ 6500rpm, 340nm @ 3200rpm

Yes the Holdens peak is lower but that does not mean the Toyota is torqueless, especially considering it has an extra gear to work with.

It still produces a good chunk further down the rev range though - drive one and see.

As for FWD vs RWD yes thats more of an issue for getting a boat up a ramp

have you seen how plasticy those bas are and as siad how many factory problems they have had

franc123, Apr 25, 7:20am
What a silly argument. 340/346Nm is still less than what the Falcon 4.0L engine was producing way back in the EB2 series of 1992!Anyone with any brains knows that if peak torque and maximum towing abilities are needed you buy a Falcon, end of story.Come to think of it 340Nm is only 15 more than what the last 4.1 EFI engines were producing in the 1980's lol.

I think you will find that all modern cars are plasticky inside, amazingly enough because they are made of plastic. The VE Commodore is hardly impressive inthat regard either, and neither is the Commodores warranty claims record.
