If you purchase a car with out current rego

and its not on hold,does the new owner pay the outstanding rego or does the previous owner pay the outstanding rego upto the point of resale!

Previous.When you change ownership, you pay from that date forward, previous owner gets sent a bill from NZTA for any backdated owing.

make sure the rego is not dead before you part with your hard earned. its a hassle and expensive to recompile.

What if,
There is no current "rego", but, it expired less than 2 months ago.
The old owner puts the rego on hold (no fee as backdated to when it expired).
Then, you do the change of ownership,
Then the new owner pays for the rego.

I assume that the new owner only pays from the change of ownership, and the old owner doesn't need to pay.
Does anyone know if that is correct!
