i just bought a boat and trailer, the trailer is ok but has a bit of surface rust from launching the boat, is there anything i can coat/paint it with to stop seawater corrosion!

If you can afford it go to the trouble of getting it sandblasted and hot dip galvanized, paint is only a short term fix.

If you cant afford hot dipped galv., go into your local Autolinkshop, you can get blackguard there for about $30 plus gst, plus any paint required. If you want a more durable finish, ask for PO15 primer which is a rust converter and primer that seals the surface and forms a rock hard surface. Then a coat of paint to cover the PO15 which doesn't have any UV restsance. PO15 about $90per litre plus gst.

Problem with painting is that it only protects the steel that you can see. Any hollow sections will be quite happily rusting away inside.
Hot dipping from new is the only way to go on a boat trailer as far as I am concerned.
