for wof work;
a garage charged me this for work for wof + expensive parts, is that usual !
I got no detail ofhourly charge on my bill, but waited for my car to be ready, and after 4 hours = $400 for labour, is that common !
just curious.

Sure, whatever.

Maybach charge you to fly a guy from Germany over to work on your car, so a hundred an hour's probably a pretty good deal.

You do drive a Maybach Excelero right!

honda

foxdonut, Feb 1, 1:16pm
Arta NSX! Yeah, they're expensive too. Is it the V6, or did you swap it our for the RA series V8!

zak410, Feb 1, 1:20pm
Funny that, the owner of the garage have a NSX now I think of it
so what should I do now I paid my bill !

afer_daily, Feb 1, 4:06pm
suck it up and live with it

skin1235, Feb 1, 4:16pm
yes quite common, in fact it may even be more at times
one mechanic doing front and rear pads at $55 hr while another doing front bushes, another $55 hr, and another doing 2 hrs @ $55 hr for headlights, wipers, trans leak, rack leaks or booties etc

you haven't even hinted at what work was done, but with 4 hrs time frame a lot could have been repaired or replaced especially if there was more than one working on it at the same time

skin1235, Feb 1, 4:18pm
you've paid the bill, so what you do now is rest assured it has been lifted from a low standard of safety to a slightly higher one
It should be easy to have confidence that it won't fall apart on the road during the next 6 mths anyway

yogibearz, Feb 1, 4:29pm
Not at all unusual. More places should be charging that much.

whqqsh, Feb 1, 4:40pm
I prefer not to see the mechanics booties or for them to touch mine thanks

superdave0_13, Feb 1, 6:14pm
Yeah imagine the conversations being held!
"Can you hold this for me while I pull on that!"

mugenb20b, Feb 1, 6:20pm
Happen severy day.

r15, Feb 1, 7:09pm
North shore toyota was charging a hundred an hour in 2007.Im sure it will be more by now

modie61, Feb 1, 7:16pm
The Porch workshop in town charges that,so ive heard.

socram, Feb 1, 8:08pm
Not at all unusual for any main dealer.Just remember that the labour charged to you has no relationship whatever as to what the mechanic is paid.Computer repair technicians were charging up to $120 an hour 15 years ago and they didn't have vast showrooms (or porches.) and flash waiting areas to pay for either.
Medical specialist charges a family member $150 for a five minute visual check up every 3 or 6 months.Probably takes longer for his secretary to print out the invoice, stick it in an envelope and send it, rather than email it.

kazbanz, Feb 1, 9:16pm
Zak-when you took the car to them did you ask what the hourly rate was!
When you go into noel leemings do you check the price on something before mpurchasng! --same thing really

modie61, Feb 1, 10:14pm
Maybe the garages should have all their prices on a board for all to see, like the super market does,or is that two different things !
I remember years ago the Midas garage used to have everything they did on a menu board, people used to take 1 look at it and hi tail it outa there. Funny thing is that my mate was 1 of those and would never go there because they were too expensive,he went to a small 1 man garage and paid lots more for the same job, because he thought he was getting well looked after.

modie61, Feb 1, 10:16pm
Always get a quote,if they wont give you one,go somewhere else, even if its just a guide to how much you may have to pay.

elect70, Feb 1, 10:27pm
All trades under valuedshould be at least $200 hour ,lawyer charges $200 for 15 minute consultationonly overhead is an office & asheila on front desk.( plusthejag & holidayhome in spain & golf clubs & membership )

cantab1971, Feb 1, 10:34pm
(small cough).ahem.how many years and fee's in tertiary education and study. !

tgray, Feb 1, 10:35pm
A common thing for garages to say is, "leave it with us and come back this afternoon" or "go and have a coffee and come back in an hour". They then do what's needed in 30 mins and charge you for the time you were away.
Find a garage you can trust and stick with them.

I wanted a door handle fitted and hooked up for central locking.
I removed the inside door trim myself and took the parts to an auto electrician.
2 hours later, they said it was the wrong part and tried to charge me $180 labour. I suggested they didn't do anything! They then 'reduced it to $80 "cash only". Bloody thieves.

rover79, Feb 1, 10:47pm
Hey yea like mcdonalds!

sw20, Feb 1, 11:05pm
That is a pretty good rate. Do they build decks as well! Would like one on the back of my living room.

yogibearz, Feb 2, 1:37am
Yes Midas, Pit Stop, and Oil changers to name but a few do that. take your car in for a service at the menu price and watch and wait for all the over priced extras that are probably not even required in some cases to be added.
