Keep saving and buy a 325.

vtecintegra, Feb 21, 1:17am
The 318i is a four cylinder the 320i is a six

As above consider a 325i or up, don't seem to cost a lot more

How about a 325i e46 have found one of those I can afford 2002

foxdonut, Feb 21, 1:35am
Cool story, bro.

I would probably get the 318i over 320i as the 318 is better on gass and the performance is not that different. 325i is faster, but will use more gas. Also consider getting a manual as automatic BMWs are rubbish (try and avoid anything from singapore).

Thanks there is a nice 318 with leather may go and look at it

I have a 325i and would definitely recommend it over a 318 at least. Alot more power and get up and go. Have heard the 318's can be a bit gutless at times

I have an E46 330i. Nothing wrong with auto boxes- in the past had an E36 316i auto and a 320i auto- both great cars, but the 330i is the ultimate. If you can save that bit more, go for the 330i!

Beware of Singapore imports, also consider route maintenance and unforeseen costs, example I just replaced a steering angle sensor at $995 on318i, you may be able to purchase the car but can you afford to keep it running, get a pre purchase inspection, they are prone for oil leaks, also get a diagnostic scan as I have pick numerous expensive faults when inspecting these cars

duke250, Feb 21, 5:36am
I would take a 318i Manual over a 325i Auto any-day.

duke250, Feb 21, 5:40am
+1, Dont pay full price for a Singapore import as the e46 have alot of electronic components that can fail. Which are really expensive to replace.

foxdonut, Feb 21, 6:32am
Lol, how many 3 series have you owned!

I would take a 325i over a 318i any day. Same/better economy but much better performance. The best I could achieve in the city is 10L/100km but get 7L/100km on the open road. I know the 325i can pull these figures too but isn't slow as hell

I used to have a 325 manual, it was very smooth and plenty of grunt, but alas she was a greedy wee pig.318s are fine for general running and better on fuel.

foxdonut, Feb 21, 7:08am
I have a manual e46 325ci and had both the 318 and 320 e36's. E36 are rubbish, and the only thing wrong with the 46is the transmission. Manual BMWs are naff. In slow moving traffic you can't get the car out of 1st without it stalling.

It also gets better economy than the other two because it downtime have a hampster wheel motor trying to move nearly 2 tonnes of car around.

s.c, Feb 21, 7:22am
I won't be using that often as have a work vehicle just want something that is comfortable don't need to go too fast will end up killing myself at the moment looking at 318i 320i and a 325 more confused than ever

foxdonut, Feb 21, 7:46am
More number = More better.

No point buying a BMW for any purpose unless you plan to spend money and drive the car. If you're worried about fuel economy, a BMW is not for you.

You'll struggle to even find a car in a manual transmission
