My motorbike guards have developed a number of rust pits after being in the garage unloved (but not unlovely) for the past 16 years. I don't want to replace and can't afford to rechrome so any good fixes for them. I'm thinking I'd like to clearcoat them too. I'd rather have the shine last a long time than be mega glossy.

Light scuff with wire-wool, and then polish to seal it. It they don't come off, you're stuck with it, and a rechrome is the only option. (Or paint)
