A good example of the design house selling the same thing to two different customers (BMC & Pug).Pity BMC didnt get the Pug engine as part of the package!

Gunna-1, he is talking about the farina body design that was similar to the Morris Oxfords of the era.

I used to say the Austin/Morrises were built looking back at the '50s wheras the Peugeots were built looking forward to the seventies.

I had a 404 with 125,000 miles on it and it was silent at idle.
Great cars, but buggers for rust.

Years ago in the 70s a Neigbour of ours had a rare white 7 seater Peugeot 404 Wagon and around 5 years ago Malcom Elgar former President of Peugeot Car Club owned an ultra rare red 404 Convertible

I had a 404 Coupe, with the Kugelfischer fuel injection, they were actually a nice looking car, compared to the 404 sedan. I don't think the 404 was looking forward - worm dive and torque tube! Only the French would think to have the door lock buttons be up for lock, and down for unlock.probably confused a few car thieves. At one place I worked (when I owned the Coupe) we had a 404 as a workshop hack.it did a pretty good job.

Yes have seen pics of the 404 coupes, very pretty, as were the 504's, they weren't simply a 2 door version of a 4 door car with a slopey back on them like a Holden Monaro or Datsun 1200 coupe for example, it was a substantially different looking body to the point where it was barely recognisable as being 404 based.
