NIssan P11 Rev counter.

A year or so ago, during a cold frostly morning my friend got in the car and it started but they heard a "ping"and it has never worked right since.

It comes and goes as it wants,it often just sits at the very end of the range (beyond the red line).
It basicly don't work at all,I would like to know how they work & where to start looking.

This is a 97 primera p11 with a 1800cc motor.Done less than 50,oookms.

Google was not a help,so I think not a common problem!

common problem in imported nissans. Doesnt seem to happen to NZ new ones from my observation. Anyway it is probably a dry connection or faulty component on the circuit board.

I guess that I will have to find a another rev counter or circuit board!

What would you guys be look at if it was your car!

I'd pull it apart and look for dodgy stuff like bulging caps, dry solder

Will have to talk my friend and ask them if I can take there car apart.

It bugs me that it not working, they don't understand that it can help understand what the motor is doing & that will help save gas.

common problem, its a faulty diode or rectifier in the circuit board. send it to a auto spark or such.
get it fix in tuaranga is were we send all our electrical stuff to, bloody good service and cheap as chip.
