Mitsi Challenger 2.8 injector pump seal ?

Car is showing the classic symptons of an injector pump seal failure :
Starts first time then stalls shortly after a cold start, has cut out on me while approaching a junction and braking for a corner etc. Once my foot is off the gas it stalls.
It always restarts but only after a lot of hard work by the starter motor. Once it has done this it will run perfectly for the rest of the day but repeats the same problem when it has fully cooled the next time I use it.

So, Can anyone recommend a specialist / diesel mechanic or mobile mechanic in wellington !

Diesel & Turbo in Petone. But, they charge a lot. The air leak may not be at the pump, hopefully it's from the filter housing. If it is the pump = big $$$.

Yeah, that's a bugger. There is another guy, but I'm not sure if he's still in the business, Lindsay Forrest (I think).

Some times the filter housing pump can get an air leak and when sitting over night will allow the fuel to drain back causing the symptoms you discribe,Putting a one-way valve in the fuel line before the filter could be worth a crack to eliminate this option.May work, is cheap but sadly, from experience, 75% probably is your pump

I don't think it is a pump leak. the pump is under pressure once it's running and the diesel runs out.

Check for air getting sucked in somewhere before the injector pump. High up probably. the filter. A dirty filter could cause it too/ make it worse. You have changed that right!

It's not a pressure pump, it's a lift pump. It's at the front of the injector pump, and when the seal leaks it often sucks engine oil into the injector pump - pull the fuel filter and see if the fuel is black, a sure sign a 4M40 has a failed front seal. Easy enough to do.but may as well do all the rest at the same time.

been down this track with a 2.8 pajero pump, same thing kept cutting out ect, turned out that there was water damage inside the pump, took it off mysef but still cost $1300 to fix

Found this site the other day:

I'm not sure what to make of this, either some Chinese plant making cheap knock-offs of a wide range of injector pumps, or they're making the things under license to Bosch, Zexel, and Denso - which also seems a bit unlikely IMO.
It would be interesting to see how much they cost.

its why you should have used winns edt- or similar additive . no seal shrinkage and prevents corosion from ulsd also your injectors need a rebuild also most likely now that you destroyed em without diesel additive . Google ulsd for more information on this subject no additive is playinr gussian roulette with any diesel engine that runs ultra Low sulfur diesel= u-l-s-d
