2005 Hilux Air Bag Light just came on tonight while driving home. Manual says take to agent immediately. Any thing i can look at first!

eagles9999, Jun 12, 9:54am
In many cases only the agent can fix(may need a code) however some sparkies can do a fix sometimes if its because the wiring under the seats that has come adrift.

Take it to a sparky. Cheaper than the dealer normally

frostidragon, Jun 12, 10:06am
Cheers for that.

i wouldnt say (in many cases) most intelligent mechanics or sparkies with the right testing equipment should be able to carry dealership diagnostics and repairs

it needs a new clockspring. sorry bud hope the price has come down a bit

rkauto, Jun 12, 11:31am
agreemost likely clock spring in one of those.

nzeva, Jun 12, 11:36am
A search of the net shows the clock spring fault to be a common Toyota air bag problem costing several hundred dollars to fix.
The part is for sale on eBay Aussie for a reasonable price!

most likely to be the clock spring but still i'D check under the seat for unplugged wires first--worth a looksee

Clock springs for these have definitely come down in price. They were $1200 a couple of years ago and are down to around $500 now. They are a common problem with these and are generally only available as genuine parts.Thought I saw a new one listed on this site recently.

Just checked.They have come down heaps.Auction #483768873

I thought Toyotas were reliable and cheap to run and own !
In my opinion most of them need a JAZZ up.

frostidragon, Jun 13, 9:17am
What part of country you in gadgit3 !

bigfatmat1, Jun 13, 9:21am
That is cheap.

gadgit3, Jun 13, 7:49pm
Wrong island sorry. Paeroa

gadgit3, Jun 13, 7:52pm
All built in to the final $$380 as it's only 10min to fix but min labour charge is 0.3hr so the rest is just that.

frostidragon, Jun 24, 8:59am
Thought I'd let people know that I contacted the 2 toyota dealers in town to get a quote to do the clock spring. As was mentioned on here one of them said about $400 and the other said it was going to be $800 job but before I had the chance to tell him where to go he said that Toyota might come to the party and do it for free. He rang me the next day to say bring it in whenever and it would be done for free. Job done yesterday- no charge

We have a 2010 model at work that has the same problem. Where is this thing mounted. It should be under warranry but I know it will never get back to the dealership
