Which oil for a Corolla

trunks2022, Jun 4, 10:52pm
Hi, I recently bought a '96 Corolla wagon (1.5L 5A-FE engine) with 207k on it and I'm trying to determine which oil I should be using for an oil change.
From what I can tell I want a mineral oil as the car has a lot on kms on it!

If that's the case would any 15W40 mineral oil be fine! such as this one http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catalog/product/Castrol-GTX-Modern-Engine-Oil-15W-40-4-Litre!SKU=366455 Otherwise I was looking at this http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catalog/product/Caltex-Havoline-Synthetic-Blend-10W-40-4L!SKU=1180597

Appreciate any help.

15/40 and *if* it burns that, go up to 20/50.5AFE's aren't a fussy engine, so long as you keep up regular changes, most oil brands are fine in them.

Once the rings start wearing, they will burn through 15/40 really fast, and it's time to go 20/50.

You aren't in a racecar so regular 15w 40 should do fine.

15w 40 wil be fine, just keep an eye on sales. Its a common grade oil so wil be cheap when on sale, check out your latest repco, warehouse or supercheap auto.

You can also pick up Magnatec for a few dollars more. A mate of mine has used it in his Corolla since he bought it, done over 240,000 kms and never had any problems. Either one will be fine though. Unless it starts chewing oil.
