Looking at buying one. Got burnt many years ago on an RX Capella. I need information please about performance and reliability.

Guy at work has one, spends more time warming it up than driving home. Luckily he has a warranty on it as coils and other sensors have failed.

Use the search box on the left, this has been discussed numerous times.

For the fuel used they aren't fast.

friend had one which had lost compression in one rotor before 100,000kms.

They drink oil too. Pity about the negatives as aside from the engine I like a lot of the design.

they have oil injection, which is why they drink oil.

pretty nice car to drive [although the lack of torque is a pain] and quite practical, but OH the fuel and oil consumption! and the problems!

Sounds like most of the old problems still exist with the 8's. Was told by a specialist that when buying one, put the contingency of a new block in the price you pay. Thoughts please.

You could certainly do that as they have depreciated quite badly (or well depending if you are the buyer or seller)

My thoughts are, you could have a bright future in air traffic control or bomb disposal.

what you have to ask yourself is do you just want a quick sporty car or do you want an RX8!

I bought one of the first RX2s sold in NZ from Giltraps when he was at 444 Great North Rd in '73. At the time it gave a lot of Holdens/Falcons/Valiants quite a scare at the lights. But it was thirsty, 18mpg was as good as it got. Seals had gone by 40k. I've always thought the RX7 was the zenith for the rotary car, good hp and torque for the gas needed. RX8 just doesn't have the HP or torque for the gas needed. A 350Z/Skyline 350 Coupe are much better propositions. I would have liked to have owned a Cosmo with the 20B.

Hey, it's good to have some detailed feedback, rather than the "only like V8" club, and nothing else compares. Cheers.
