Are these a good reliable car! Are they really that much more expensive to work on re cam belts etc etc

Almost all subaru's are the same when it comes to the ej20 engine so cambelts and servicing should not be anymore

Not really, as the access to the cambelt area is very good and easy to get to. However, they do have a hydraulic tensioner, idlers and water pump that need replacing at the same time. The only expensive job would be head gaskets, rocker cover gaskets and spark plugs due to the labour involved (compared to other 4 cylinder engines).
