BMW E30 Missing on idle

Hello, my E30 has been idling rough for a while and once in a while would stall on idle (if engine is cold). Once the car starts driving everything is fine. The vacuum hose connected to the Idle control valve looks pretty manky and has a few splits. Last service I asked the mechanic to look for vaccum hose leaks and he said there were none. What could it be, and should I worrie about it! Doesn't really bother me all that much, tho looks pretty silly when the car stalls at the lights on a cold night, doesn't hop or anything the engine just shuts off (its a manual).

Replace the hose, this should be first port of call and should be done whether its the cause of the fault or not.

Then give the throttle body a thorough clean with MAF cleaner. Not sure what the situation is with the idle control valve on those but if you can clean and test that easily do it while you are in there.

Then move on to more complicated and expensive potential causes from there.

Chances are this will be a cheap easy fix that you can do yourself.
